What Could Costochondritis Diagnosis And Testing Positive For TB Indicate?

Hello, I've recently had a positive TB skin test and am a bit concerned due to the fact I've been to the doctor 2x concerning chest pains in the last year, which they believe to be costachondritis. I ave a CXR scheduled for tomorrow, but I'm feeling kind of anxious about it. Should I be worried?

Pulmonologist 's  Response
In my opinion consult pulmonologist rather than gp. And yes definately you should get done Chest X Ray. This will diagnose pneumonia or TB or pleurisy as a cause for your chest pain. And regarding skin test for tb is concern, it is not the diagnostic test, it is for screening purpose. On positive dkin tb test one should not start AKT. False positive test can be seen in
1. Past history of TB.
2. BCG vaccination in childhood.
3. Sensitivity to the environmental mycobacteria.
This skin test detects antibodies against tb bacilli. So in above mentioned conditions patient has antibodies in the body so when skin test perform they will interact with antigen and cause positive test. So consult pulmonologist rather than gp.
