What Causes Yellow Liquid Discharge From Breasts?

I am 56. I had a hysterectomy 20 years ago. Today my breast felt engorged and painful, like I was lactating. I was able to express a yellow liquid which looked like colostrum from both breasts. My mammogram in October was negative. I have not started any new drug or hormone therapy. Should I be concerned?

Thanks for posting your question on HCM!
I can understand your problem.
In view of your age, and having undergone hysterectomy 20 years ago, with no history of drug intake or hormone therapy. The following causes may be responsible for your present problem:

Yellow liquid discharge may be the result of hormonal changes that lead to lumpy breasts, a condition known as "breast nodularity."
Another condition linked to changes in estrogen and progesterone levels is called "duct ectasia." It typically occurs just before or after menopause and may result in discharge.
Increased level of milk producting hormone prolactin (hyperprolactinemia) may also cause the yellowish dischage.
In rare instances breast discharge can be a sign of a breast cancer.
Kindly consult your doctor for proper evaluation and treatment.
Regardes!
