What Causes Yellow Gum And Breathlessness While Suffering From Jaundice?

I am so sorry to share my bad news. I had regular checkup in Chennai and got delivered(vaginal birth) my first baby in Rajapalaym, My baby weighed 2.3 kg. When we had child check up, it was told, he is fine. My son was fine as well and very normal with sleeping, urine and poo.. Hospital procedure is to check for Jaundice on 3rd day. when we checked for our baby, Doctor said, baby has less jaundice, it is normal with new born. Still they kept my baby under photo theraphy. On Fourth day, I was watching yellow gum(elders were telling, it is bus getting by cold) and my baby s heartbeat stopped in the same afternoon. I just fed my baby and kept him under photo-theraphy as usual and did not find anything abnormal, sitting near to the baby in chair. My baby expired! When we asked doctor, they told to undergo post-mortem with new born. we refused it. Now, I don t know the cause. Can you please throw some light so that I could some precaution. Can you please suggest some good hospital in Chennai, I am staying in Nesapakkam(near K K nagar). I want a hospital where they monitor baby activites very closely and help with feeding for babies as well.

Hi,

Well, jaundice is just a sign and not diseases, and treatment depends on exact cause. Jaundice is usually sign of certain liver disease and high bilirubin value.

Causes of jaundice vary from non-serious to potentially fatal. Levels of bilirubin in blood are normally below 1.0 mg/dL (17 µmol/L) and levels over 2-3 mg/dL (34-51 µmol/L) typically results in jaundice.

High bilirubin may be due to liver diseases such as cirrhosis or hepatitis, infections, medications, or blockage of the bile duct In the developed world the cause is more often blockage of the bile duct or medications.

Blockage of the bile duct may occur due to gallstones, cancer, or pancreatitis. Medical imaging such as ultrasound is useful for detecting bile duct blockage.

Treatment of jaundice is typically determined by the underlying cause. If a bile duct blockage is present surgery is typically required, otherwise management is medical.

Medical management may involve treating infectious causes and stopping medication that could be contributing.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
