What Causes Vomiting And Diarrhea In A One Month Old Infant Who Has WBC In Stools?

My 34 day child was formitting and diahorhia and was crying mostly at nigth. My child has beign exclusively breast fed except the first two days.

May child stool has beign cultured and WBC was present. But no harmful bacteria has beign found. The doctor only gave antacid

I would like to know the symptoms in detail.
Was there fever? What is the frequency of loose stools and vomiting?
What was the number of pus cells in the stools?
Was there any blood in the stools?

When a child is exclusively breast fed, they can pass golden yellow watery stools with granules in it. It can be pasty also. The frequency may vary from 2 to 4 in a day to stools after each feeds. All these things are normal.

If the stool frequency has suddenly increased and it's consistency has changed from pasty to watery, then you can call it loose stools.

Vomiting once or twice can happen if child is not burped properly after each feeds. Once has to be sure that its not regurgitation which is normally seen in small infants.

Usually viral or bacterial infections are associated with fever. If there is no fever, then infections are unlikely. In breast fed infants usually infections are not common.

Crying at night might be due to colic which starts at around 3 weeks of age.

So if there was no fever, nothing to worry. Just complete the antacid course. Continue breast feeding. In case if watery stools in increased frequency persists with redness in the region around the anus, just get Lactose intolerance ruled out.
