What Causes Vaginal Pain During Pregnancy?

Hi, I m currently almost 34 weeks pregnant and for the past couple of weeks now I ve been feeling a really severe pain in my vaginal area. It hurt for me to move to do anything. It hurts to sit up, try to get up and walk to the bathroom, etc. For two days now I noticed that I m swollen in my vaginal area and it feels like I m dismaying, is this normal?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Sometimes due to strain the vaginal area may become tender but also during the later stages of pregnancy hormonal changes may occur which are required for local muscles relaxation as well as external genitalia swelling etc. For reassurance you should get it examined by your primary care physician or gynecologist to proceed with detailed per vaginal examination. Also local swab cultures may be needed to rule out any infection which may complicate delivery process or may require to switch to C section if so. Meanwhile OTC analgesics like acetaminophen can be safely used if pain is experienced or interferes with your routine.

Wishing you a speedy recovery. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
