What Causes Vaginal Pain After A Hysterectomy?

Thank you in advance for your help. I had a robotic assisted hysterectomy 11 days ago. I have been feeling well with no problems, so yesterday I got out and went and walked around the mall and just out about town for about 3 hours. Yesterday evening I started having a throbbing sensation. The best way I can describe it is it is in the spot where I feel an orgasm. It is just a painful throb, not horrible, but enough that I was pacing the floor to try to get some relief. Did I just overdo yesterday or is this just normal recovery. I did have some internal stitches and wonder if this has anything to do with that. Just concerned that all is normal.

Hi,

Robotic assisted hysterectomy usually is less invasive than open surgery and results in less pain and bleeding. Having said that, it has to be recognised that it does require some handling, cutting through and manipulation of tissues with diathermy - in the course of separating the uterus from attachment. So there is healing that is going on in the body even if the surface wounds of entry on skin appear to have healed.

I suspect that walking through the mall and in town would have strained the pelvic tissues which are still in healing phase and as such might still be bruised. My advice is to respect the body. Every person has a different constitution, so listen to the cues that your body is giving to you. Please do not engage in outdoor or strenuous physical activity for a period of six weeks. You can test your own ability and gradually increase the level of physical activity. In the mean time taking ordinary pain relief such as paracetamol and ibuprofen (if not asthmatic) might be useful.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
