What causes vaginal bleeding after intercourse?

I am 52 woman. My doctor said I was post menopausal In May 2013. Yesterday I had what felt like menstrual cramps, and then I noticed some spotting when I went to the toilet. My vagina felt sore too. I had sex with my husband the night before. Should I get It checked out. Do you think It Is something I should worry about?

OBGYN 's  Response
Hello,
I have gone through your query and understood the concern. After menopause, there is an atrophy of the mucosal layers and this can lead to spotting due to trauma after any vaginal procedure or intercourse. This is the most likely reason for your symptom. Yet, in view of your age, please see a specialist for a proper examination. A pap smear should be taken as part of routine checkup. Lack of lubrication leading to trauma during intercourse can be checked by using either hormone implants or K-Y jelly. Infections, if any, should be promptly treated. Hope you find this information useful. Take care.
