What Causes Tingling Sensation Behind The Knee?

The back of my knees, mainly along the tendons have a strange tingling/prickling sensation that comes and goes. This sensation occasionally occurs at the same time along the side of my knee caps. They did this before a few months ago when I felt I had damaged my knees doing strengthening exercises, but a doctors appointment reassured me that it was just my ligaments/tendons strengthening themselves like how a muscle repairs itself and gets stronger after a workout. It s been occasional during this period, but now it feels like it s getting worse and I m starting to get concerned about the health of my knees. Any suggestions?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Tingling sensation behind the knees can be due to nerve compression, developing peripheral neuropathy, spinal disc issues (narrow spinal canals) or Baker's cyst. You are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP. Get Blood, Nerve conduction tests, Imaging tests done to detect the pathology causing you discomfort.

Your treatment will depend on the reports of the investigations obtained and your clinical condition. If diabetic control your blood glucose level and avoid addictions if any. Take vitamin B6, B12 rich food or supplements.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
