What Causes Tight Feeling In Throat After Eating Food?

I had lap gastric bypass in 05. In 08 i had surgery to repair an internal hernia. I recently received a a kenolog 40 shot because my asmtha and post nasal drip from a sinus infection was out of control. My chest feels tight, but I ate a bowl of bean a couple of days ago and my throat felt very tight. I took a benedryl 25 mg and started feeling better after rubbing ice hot/tiger balm and vicks vapor rub on my neck. To day i had a piece of chicken and beef and now my throat is feeling tight again. I whish I knew what was causing it. I plan to contact my primary doctor in the morning. Could I possible have another hernia, or am I suddenly allergic to everthing I eat.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your query, you have symptoms of tight feeling in throat after eating food and it could be due to inflammation of tonsils. The symptoms can also occur due to acid reflux. You should avoid intake of spicy and heavy food.

I would suggest you to take throat lozenges and do warm saline gargles. You should take antibiotic Levofloxacin in combination with antiallergic medicine Levocetirizine.

Visit an ENT specialist once and get it examined. You should get blood and throat swab test done and get it examined. Start treatment after proper prescription. Doctor may also refer you to a gastroenterologist for acid reflux problem.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
