What Causes The Feeling To Clear The Throat Continuously?

My problem is I am continuing clearing my throat, I feel as if I have mucus at the back and need to clear it. I went to see a ENT Consultant last year who said there was nothing there and suggested it was acid reflux. However I have tried all the medicines on the market and so far its no better. Its driving me mad and now I wont go out to socialise as Im to embarassed as coughing all the time. I have been diagnosed with Asthma and allergies (but not sure what Im allergic too. I have stopped taking my Inhaler (Clenile Modulite) yesterday I think its causing the build up of musuc in my airways.).

Hello,

The feeling of mucus at the back of the throat is known as post nasal drip. It can be caused by various factors like rhinitis, sinusitis, allergy, acid reflux, upper respiratory tract infection, and due to side effect of some medication. If you have already been examined by an ENT consultant, and diagnosed with acid reflux, asthma, and allergies you must continue with the medications prescribed. I would suggest you to resume the use of inhaler; as stopping the use of prescribed inhaler can lead to exacerbation of asthma. In addition, you can discuss with your treating doctor about the possible treatment of reflux as that may resolve your complaints. Moreover, your doctor can prescribe you nasal decongestants, or nasal steroids for short period to treat the post nasal drip. You must avoid drinking alcohol, limit caffeine consumption, and stop smoking as this can worsen the symptom.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
