What Causes Swollen Knee And Limps For A 2 Year Old Girl?

my 2 yr old daughter has swollen knee and limps in the morning . the condition gradually improves as the day progresses.this is going on for a week . she is currently taking encephabol & mentat as she has not started speaking coherently. Can this be a side effect or it is arthritis

hi,

thanks for your question. a reactive arthritis is very common in a child following a viral infection. this usually resolves over a week or two. it is possible that your daughter has an inflammatory arthritis although she is very young for a condition such as juvenile idiopathic arthritis. if her symptoms persist then further investigation for this type of problem is warranted.

ensure she can continue to move her knee and weight bear. give her regular antinflammatory medication. if her symptoms worsen or persist seek further medical advice
