What Causes Swelling In Front Of The Ear?

I have a swollen/lump in front of my right ear (where ear & jaw hinge meets). It isn't painful but a little tight feeling and uncomfortable. About 31/2 months ago I had what my Dr. referred to as Parotitis which resolved itself. Could this be related?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain a swollen lump in front of the ear and at the location you described can be due to swollen salivary gland that is Parotid gland as it is located in this position and there can either be infection [Parotitis] or clogged duct of the gland due to formation of crystalline stones from minerals present in saliva leading to swelling and due to stretching of the gland as well as the skin over the area there is tense and uncomfortable feeling..
You should consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation, cross sectional X RAY and MRI scan [ as per required] can be advised to you to confirm the cause abd treat accordingly..
For infections antibiotics will help.
If there are stones removal of the same manually [ if they are superficial] or surgically [ if deep located] can be done for relief..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
