What Causes Swelling Along With Soreness In The Feet?

Hi there, last friday i jumped off a trailer and something didn t feel right when i landed on the ball on my foot. The next morning i went ski touring for about an hour and i could feel it getting sore. That night felt ok and the next day was sore as well, but sunday night the joint near the big toe was swollen and red and painful. The next day it was sore but i was able to walk around a bit. Mon night felt ok, but tues was supper painful again at night. wed was painful, but now seems to be getting better. Still swollen and sore when walking today. Could this be Gout? Also, i have IGA nephropathy, and take lisinopril 20mg/day to control BP. Could this kidney condition be raising my uric acid levels as the kidneys cannot excrete the excess as well as before? I probably need to get the joint fluid tested, to know for sure. Can this be done anytime?

Hi,

I'm of the following opinion:

1. As there is a history of jumping so it could possibly be a muscle strain [commonest in young], but can be sue to resulting injury, inflammation [metabolic] or infection, so in order to reach a conclusion, a direct examination is necessary for proper diagnosis, so you should see your attending Physician who can refer you to concerned Orthopedic or Podiatrist [if needed], till then

- you can start with tablet tylenol DS
- maintain muscle tone by improving body posture and doing light aerobics.
- In nutshell, you need physiotherapy sessions along with prescription anti-inflammatory drugs

2. Lisnopril is an ACE inhibitor and long-term does reduce renal function thereby increasing uric acid levels [and asymmetrical polyarthritis].
3. If you want to check with the levels, one should have done in the morning [empty stomach], however can be done anytime.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
