What Causes Slowing Of The Kidney Function?

Hi : i have seen my physician and she was reading a report of my last blood test of which i do every 4 months to see what is happening to my diabetes ... She did say that my kidneys have been slowing down and her concern to this was to take me off the metformin that I take twice a day for my diabetes . In the years of having this debilitating and degenerative disease , I have had it under control and the results are about 6.2 and 6.4 on the end results of the my AIC , I believe as my reading. I am not taking the medication and will be returning for another 12-13 hour fasting in six weeks to check on the results of what the kidneys are doing . I know that over time, my energy has been bad ,,,I am always so tired and this is not me at all ... My doctor did say that the hormones the kidneys give out generally helps me in what I need for a portion of what energy levels are maintained /// guess so , not sure . Time will tell me . meanwhile , I have been drinking a lot of water with lemon in it and find this refreshing and seems to help me somewhat . .. I am searching for an answer to helping my vital organs. What can you tell me that will be of some help . thank you .

Hi,

Kidney function can be measured by creatinine in blood tests which can be converted into GFR by a math equation, typically when your GFR (Kidney percent function) is less than 30 metformin needs to be held due to the way it clears from your body. Kidneys go through wear and tear with normal aging as it is a filter for your body that gets rid of waste from blood through urine. High blood sugars and high blood pressure can damage your 'filter'. As long as A1C

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
