Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Slow Heart Rate And Low Blood Pressure?
my blood pressure is 138 over 82 and my heart rate is 56 - my heart rate hardly ever reaches 60 beats when resting and bp is normally 116 over 72 - should i be worried about slow heart rate i am not at all fit athletic - i am a 55 year old woman with a history of sarcoidosis
Although slow heart heart has many causes, including health fit athlete, I would advise you to get an Electrocardiogram (ECG) done, which records the heart rhythm, as one of the common presentation of cardiac sarcoidosis (the one involving the heart) can cause heart blocks.
Once these blocks are rule out, then I would suggest having TSH levels done, as hypothyroidism is one of the common cause of slow pulse rate in this age.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr Muhammad Zahir Shah
