What Causes Shortness Of Breath And Chest Pain?

Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here...My 9 year old son is experiencing shortness of breath and chest pain without exertion. He is very active and can play a full game of basketball without a problem. He doesn t have a cough, cold or any other noticeable symptoms.?

Hi,

The common cause of shortness of breath and chest pain in children due to heart failure or pulmonary embolism or any chest infections, rarely due to foreign body obstruction.

Your son has no exertional dyspnea or cough and cold, so the above causes are unlikely. Some times heart rhythm abnormalities can present as shortness of breath and pain over chest. So, I would suggest you to do a baseline ecg and get a opinion from pediatric cardiology.
