What Causes Severe Watery Eye After Treatment For Bell's Palsy?

My husband is recovering from Bell's Palsy post onset 6 weeks. He has been having excessive tearing of the affected eye most recemntly even though he can now blink the eye and we are not taping it closed any longer. Can the tear duct be affected with this malady? Also any suggestion to alleviate the problem. The tears run down his face rather than into his nose.
