What Causes Pain In The Sinus And Bleeding?

I woke up the other morning and there was a small amount probably a couple of cc s of blood that had drained onto my pillow it appears to have come from my tear duct, it hasn t done it since and I m not having any bloody discharge from my nose. I do have some mild pain around that eye but there has been no injury and the pain is consistent with sinus pressure. Why would I be bleeding from my tear duct?

Hello and Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Well it looks like sinus related problem only and the site of pain and sinus pressure is all pointing towards sinusitis.

If the eye is not appearing red or inflamed and there is no discharge of blood seen anytime again then it does not look like bleeding from tear duct.

So my advise to you is to consult an Emergency room or a Physician and get evaluated.

A clinical examination and investigation like sinus X-ray or PNS VIEW X-ray can help in ruling out the exact cause and treatment can be done accordingly.

If sinus infection is confirmed that looks pretty apparent, then a course of antibiotics like Augmentin and anti inflammatory painkillers like Motrin can be advised.

Along with it decongestant nasal spray like Xylometazoline can help in relieving sinus pressure.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
