What Causes Severe Stomach Pain Post Gallbladder Surgery?

My father-in-law just had gallbladder surgery this week. he is still in the hosiptal with complications that have came up since his surgery like sever stomach pain which we were told was air from surgery. then he spit up a lot of stuff which we were told was part of his bowels was not fully functioning. today he started running a fever and midmorning he became unresponsive and tonight we noticed his ear lobes were turned up. any suggestions on what is wrong? they have run all kinds of test blood work and scans and xrays and everthing shows things are ok.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

I want to know for what cholecystectomy was done. Whether for stone, tumor or any other pathology. Whether procedure was open surgery or laparoscopy. Usually after surgery patient bowel will be paralytic lieus (non functioning bowel) for 24 to 72 hrs depending on surgery and condition. If persist for more then 4 days need to be evaluated for any other cause or any other infection. If I was a treating doctor I will go with CT abdomen with contrast and proceed.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Tata Lokesh Kumar, General Surgeon
