What Causes Severe Pain In The Thigh?

What might be causes or conditions associated with an intermittent deep thigh pain (sharp) in a very small, specific area? I am inclined Not to think DVT because it s been happening for about 11 months, on and off. It s worse when I sit (as opposed to lying down, or walking) and most often occurs in the evening? I don t even know what specialist to consult for this.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is possible that the pain is nerve related pain (neuralgia).

Neuragia is due to peripheral neuropathy which refers to abnormal functioning of the nerves outside of the brain and spinal cord.

There are different possible causes such as: (1)vitamin b12 or folate deficiency
(2)diabetes
(3)trauma
(4)liver or kidney disease
(5)exposure to toxins
(6)side effect of medications
(7)neurological conditions such as ms or stroke
(8)infections such as shingles
(9)idiopathic- cause is not known

You can first consult your general practitioner who can do an initial examination and refer you if needed.

I hope this helps
