What Causes Severe Pain In Hip,lower Back And Numbness In Hands And Feet?

I've been having horrible pain in my hip and lower back. My left leg is going numb to where I can't walk on it. My hands, fingers, and my feet are also going numb and swelling constantly. My toes turned a shade of purple I've never seen before while I was in a hot shower. I had a MRI on my brain/ spine today at 6:00. My doctor promised to call me as soon as it was over. This doctor assured me this three times, needless to say a few hours have passed and nothing. I know the man has a personal life and other things going on. I just can't help to think the worst because he never called me. Being a doctor, would you give the bad news over the phone or would you wait till the morning and ask the patient to come In personally to tell them bad news? Freaking out. Please help
