What Causes Severe Hair Loss After An IUD Insertion?
Hi. I had an iud (mirena) in November last year. I noticed I was having significant hair loss, shedding, breakage since then and linked it back to my iud. I ve never had it before and I don t have hair loss in my family. So...I just had it removed last week and my OB put me on oral birth control (famnila) but that has the same horomone in it (levongestral). I m really concerned this is what s causing my hair loss... please help!
Thanks for your question on HCM and I do understand your concern
“As” per your clinical history is concerned hormonal changes can affect hair loss so check if your periods are regular or not and if regular then IUD has no connection with it, do a [TSH] test to rule out hypothyroidism. Do check if you have fungal infection on scalp or not.so treatment of hair loss depends upon underlying medical conditions only. Ask your doctor about [minoxidil] and it is a OTC medication and you can use it in scalp.
You need some lifestyle modification like this -:
1)Try to eat a balanced diet and add one multivitamin of your choice 2)Try to change your hairstyles 3)Avoid compulsively twisting, rubbing, or pulling your hair 4)Use a wide toothed comb 5)Try to avoid hot rollers, curling irons, etc
Hope that helps
