What Causes Severe Cough And Nose Bleed?

My 6 year old son has been sick for 2 weeks and he has asthma and allergies. It seems that his cold may be getting better with the help of mucinex. But he was coughing a lot last night and woke with blood on his pillow. I had him blow his nose and he blew out a lot of blood. He has never had nose bleeds, why could this be?

Otolaryngologist / ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

Asthma and allergies do cause cough with expectoration. But bleeding is just unusual commonly. Some queries needs to be answered... did he suffered fever? did he had any other ailment?

Your son needs proper and through investigation including blood count, sputum examination for microbiology, X-ray chest & sinuses and physical examination of nose and throat at least.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
