What Causes Severe Bleeding With Clots After C Section?

My daughter had a C section on 2-14 due to placenta previa. Although scheduled for the 16th, she started bleeding very heavily so they performed the procedure right away. She had a hematoma, lost a lot of blood during the c section so had a transfusion. Same day they had to re open her up due to heavy internal bleeding. She went home on the 18th but started bleeding profusely with huge blood clots on the 20th. She went to the emrgency room and they gave her medication to help her uterus contract more- they also did an ultra sound. It is now Wednesday the 23rd and she is again experiencing very heavy bleeding with huge clots and is feeling quite faint.

Could there be something more serious than recovering from a C section with a hematoma? She is going to her OB- what questions should she ask?

Hi there,
Welcome to HCM,

Placenta previa is a serious condition in preganncy and these preganncies rae to be handled with extreme caution. They are prone to excessive bleeding before during anf after delivery.

Blood transfusion are usually required for bleeding in these women and the blood loss itself can lead to anemia, which can further cause infection and bleeding.

She needs to get herself checked, her hemoglobin levels, an abdominal ultrsound to know the size of haematoma and also blood test to check for infections.

She needs to take anitbiotics, heamatinics ( to increase haemoglobin), vitamins and protein to improve her health.

If the haematoma is increasing in size on two sucessive ultrasounds or if she has more than usual vaginal bleeding she may have to be reffered to a tertiary care/teaching hospital wiit facilities for interventional radiology.

Hope this helps.
Regards.
