What Causes Ringing In Ear?

I had ringing in my right ear last night. I woke up this morning and I can t hear from my right ear. My physician friend looked this am and said I had a retracted tympanic membrane. I tried nasosynephrine spray and lying on my right side to see if it would drain in my eustachian tube but I got no relief. He called in some high dose steroids and an antiviral and said I should get an MRI and see an ENT. What do you think?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted the history of ringing in right ear, unable to hear , told about retracted TM, use of Nasosynephrine nasal spray, high dose steroid and aMRI with ENT Consultation.
Surely yes, since the middle can be seen best by endoscope, done preferably by an ENT, examination of nose and throat, Audiometry if required helps to get the most proper diagnosis which is so much important for an appropriate management.
Till then continue Oral steroid and any other medications given by your Doctor.
Instill Decongestant nasal drops followed by plain water steam inhalation.
Also take an anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. T Chandrakant,
