What Causes Right Sided Pain And Tenderness In Abdomen?

My husband is having severe pain on his right side, just below the ribs. He says it feels like he has been jogging and is tender to touch. It has been coming and going for a few months. his brother had a ruptured colon and diverticulitis so he is a little paranoid about having the same thing. What could this be?

Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
I am Dr.R.K and I am pleased to assist you.
Right sided upper abdominal pain could be due to gallbladder disease, hepatitis, peptic ulcer disease. An upper GI endoscopy and an ultrasound scan of the abdomen may be done to find the cause.
It may not diverticulitis as this causes pain in the left lower abdomen commonly.

I hope that answers your question.
Regards,
Dr.R.K
