What Causes Reduction In Blood Pressure Levels While Taking Lisinopril?

I am a 44 year old female who was prescribed 20 mg of lisinipril two years ago for hypertension. My doctor recently doubled that dose to 40mg because of several high readings over a period of several months. I weigh 155 and moderately active, with good cholesterol of 70 and bad cholesterol of 144. My bp has been running 120/91 then 111/81 since I started the double dose a week ago. I m worried about my bp getting too low. What number should my bp start to be of concern and require another doctors visit? Are there any warning signs I should look for if that is starting to happen? I have an electronic cuff at home to monitor my bp as well. I also have allergies and asthma. I take 10 mg of singular, 180 mg of Allegra, 150mg Wellbutrin SR 2x daily, and albuterol as needed. I get regular check ups and blood work as well. Any information would be helpful. Thanks, Rhonda

Hi, welcone to healthcaremagic, i have read your question and understood your problem.

Your bp reading of 111/81 and 120/91 are very much acceptable on double dose lisinopril that you are taking. 40 mg a day is maximum dose for lisinopril and if you are taking it for quite sometime with above bp readings then it is unlikely to cause low blood pressure.

warning signs for low bp woukd include giddiness or dizziness with feeling of blackout before eyes especially after getting upright from lieng down position.

I will advise you to continue same dose and keep monitoring bp every 2 to 3 weeks. Also you should follow a good dietary plan for your bad cholesterol and repeat it after 3 months. If its high then it will be a good idea to start medicines for that called statins.
