What Causes Recurring Skin Cuts In The Nostrils?

I have had recurrent splitting of the skin inside of my left nostril on and off for a couple years now. It isn't getting worse; it's just annoying and painful. The skin splits in the same exact spot at a length of 1-2mm on my septum near the outside of my nostril. The skin seems to heal itself within a couple days and forms a crusty 'scab,' although it's not colored dark red because of platelet clotting like a regular scab. My boyfriend said he gets this splitting sometimes too and that it could be fungus. I think it's caused by a virus since it's reoccurring. What do you think?
