What Causes Purple Discoloration Along Sides Of Toenails?

I have a stripe underneath my toenails of my big toes on the rightside of the right toe and left side of the left toe they are a dark purple and there is no pain. I discovered the discoloration upon removing my toenail polish. Any ideas why this would happen?

It might be a fungal infection which starts from the edge of the toe nail. You can apply topical antifungal like Clotrimazole. If discoloration persist, better to consult a dermatologist and get evaluated.
