What Causes Prolonged Vaginal Bleeding?

I have been lightly bleeding vaginally for about a week. I would bleed for a day then not bleed at all, this been happening for about 8 days now and it is accompanied with an odor. I took a pregnancy test and it was negative. I am unsure what could be going on. What could be the issue?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Prolonged menstrual bleeding could be due to many causes :
1. Fibroids.
2. Using progestin-only pills.
3. Hyperthyroidism.
4. Coagulation profile abnormalities
5. Endometrial hyperplasia.
I suggest that you perform vaginal ultrasound and thyroid function tests if the ultrasound is normal.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mahmoud Abouibrahim
