What Causes Petechiae On Lower Extremities?

I have petechiae on bilateral lower extremities ( ankle to mid calf), this is the third erruption since late January. Medical history: PLIF/6-2010, Tonsillectomy/2-2011. Is this serious, I have an appointment with a vascular specialist in 2 weeks, I saw this Dr. in January w complaints of popliteal pain, heaviness, and right calf pain, did blood work for thrombus (negative), should I be concerned or just wait for appointment. My fear is there will be no petechiae, as this physician seem to believe the problems with my legs were associated with my recent back surgery.

Welcome to healthcare magic for your health concerns
I am Dr Fahim and I will looking into your problem

I have gone through your question and understood your concerns. After PLIF in 2010, it is quite uncommon to develop a complication like this after five years, while tonsillectomy is not associated with any such problems. I need to know whether the petechiae is diffused or around specific veins. If it is a diffuse, which I think you are referring to, then it is because of some systemic problem leading to blood thinning and subcutaneous bleed. You need blood complete picture and PT/PTTK done to know whether blood coagulation is normal. You can go to any general physician for interpretation of these reports to rule out any serious illness, rather waiting for vascular specialist appointment.

I hope my answer will help you. Do rate it if you like it.
