What Causes Persistent Coughing With Burning Sensation In Throat?

I have this ongoing cough that lingers for 7 weeks so far, it began with a mild fever. There is a weird feeling in my throat, a dull burning sensation when i inhale. I wonder if it is some sort of house allergy because i never have such problems. I went to the doctor, she said it was post nasal drip and give me prednisolone 30 mg per day. Now i am on second day of it, i feel fine after taking the medicine but there is still this faint burning sensation behind my throat when inhaling. However, the sensation is not deep enough to cause a cough now. I wonder if GERD cough can cured by prednisolone because i am damn afraid its GERD. I dun have history of GERD so i am wondering if GERD is sudden onset of happen over a period of time?

Hello dear and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

In my opinion the cough can be related to GERD.

I suggest using antacids such as Omeprazole 20 mg daily in the morning before breakfast.

I also suggest using Maalox three times a day.

I suggest to avoid food that can trigger the symptoms.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Kind regards!
