What Causes Persistent Cough And Fatigue Despite Taking Steroids For Pneumonia?
Have been sick with respiratory infection since February 1, gets better than bad again. Was hospitalized for 6 days last week with pneumonia, came home Saturday. Still coughing, unable to sleep, fatigued. Have been on 4 rounds of antiobiocs and steroids. Any suggestions?

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of persistent cough and fatigue despite taking steroids for pneumonia which seems to be due to severe upper respiratory tract infection and due to poor immunity of body you are highly susceptible and prone to infections. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to start with course of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs. You should consult pulmonologist without any delay . Doctor may order blood test , throat swab test or virus culture test. You should get an x ray of the chest. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics amoxicillin at least for 10 days along with mucolytic agents. Go for complete blood count and platelet count to rule out any hidden systemic pathology. You should avoid hot, sharp and spicy foods. For now do warm saline rinses , take rest. Avoid taking cold beverages. You should take mast cell stabilizers to prevent from infection.
