What Causes Painful Lump On Lower Calf While Suffering From Type 3 Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome?
Hi, I have been recently diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos type 3. I am a 55 yo female. Yesterday, my lower calf started to ache. Thinking nothing of it I went on with my day. I later discovered a large bruise there and a very large tender lump. Almost the size of my hand. It hurts like a bugger to walk and I can t even put my leg on anything to rest due to the lump pain. What is this and what is it from? What should I do? Thank you.
An acute onset painful lump there can be a contusion / hematoma following trauma or a soft tissue infection. In Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, connective tissues are weak and blood vessels are fragile, so even minor trauma can cause this.
If you do not have fever, and the area is not hot to touch (suggesting infection), apply ice packs and take analgesics like paracetamol or ibuprofen 3 times daily for 3-5 days. If not getting down in 2-3 days, or fever or local warmth appears, kindly see your doctor for antibiotic treatment.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
