What Causes Ehlers–Danlos Syndrome?

Female, 22 y.o, 50 kg/110 pounds, 163cm/5 3 . No sudden weight loss, was always skinny. Currently on birth control pill. Mitral valve prolapse, chronic colitis. I have very visible veins and capillaries all over my body at all times and was born like this, looking transparent . Some doctors thought its a norm, some were concerned but couldn t tell what is wrong exactly. Recently I heard about ehlers-danlos syndrome and I m wondering - could this be it? I m worried because as I get older I seem to develop problems with my blood vessels, I bruise very easily and always have this sort of rash that looks like lots of tiny bruises, due to how close my capillaries are to my skin I ve been told. Recently I ve been getting random bleedings from my nose and colon and previously from urethra, also apparently due to my blood vessel problems. What can I do about it? Could it really be vascular eds?

Hello,

Ehlers danlos is a genetic disorder of which there are several types of this connective tissue disorder. You may have vascular EDS, but this should be diagnosed by a doctor after a complete physical exam. Overly flexible joints stretchy skin and fragile skin are some of the symptoms, but there are others.

People who have vascular Ehlers-Danlos syndrome often share distinctive facial features of a thin nose, thin upper lip, small earlobes, and prominent eyes. They also have thin, translucent skin that bruises very easily. In fair-skinned people, the underlying blood vessels are very visible through the skin.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
