i have had ongoing pain in lower back and tailbone area that goe around to front of my hip bones. This has ben ongoing on and off for year eems to be getting wore. i tried pt didnt help, took vicodine which helped for a little while. any daily acticitie or to much resting et off the pain and it worse on some days than others?
Tailbone pain is usually caused by wrong postures while sitting, trauma during childbirth that may radiate to the hips. Degeneration or compression of the nerves, degenerative lumber disc disease, straining (constipation/hemorrhoids), etc. You are suggested to get physically examined (pelvic floor & rectal examination), get X-ray & MRI (of the tail bone & spine), Blood tests to rule out any autoimmune disease. Your treatment (Physical therapy, Psychotherapy, Medications- oral/injections or surgery) will depend upon the pathology detected.
In the meantime do stretch exercises, sit on a pillow to avoid further damage, maintain correct posture. Gentle massage with pain relief ointments and Naproxen (NSAIDS), when pain can help.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
