What Causes Pain In The Back After Suffering From Shingles?

I have had shingles for approximately 3 weeks around the right side of my waistline. They never broke out on my back, but now I am having terrible pain in my back where the nerve comes from my spine. Thought I had kidney stone, it hurt so badly. Been to the Dr, had urine sample, & blood tests.

Hi,

It could possibly be postherpetic neuralgia [PHN] the most common complication of shingles which affects nerve fibers and skin and causes burning pain even when shingles disappears, therefore although it is a difficult condition to treat but you can take a variety of medications like antidepressants, anticonvulsants [gabapentin], after consulting your PCP for proper diagnosis and prescription, till then.

Take a salt bath and keep the affected area clean which will help prevent infection and help it heal quicker.

PS. Avoid sharing your personal items and keep separate shaving blades for face, underarm, and pubic hairs.

3. If you think the symptoms are worsening contact your Primary care provider [PCP], Infectious Disease Doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
