What Causes Pain In Ear With Tinnitus?

Hi, I just received a phone call from my father telling me that he has has had a sharp pain in his ear for a few days, he also had some bleeding after he stuck a q-tip down his ear (I advised him not to do that). He is also experiencing ringing in his ear. He is also telling me that he cannot hear very well in this ear, he says that it sounds hollowed out, and I must add that he has experienced problems with this ear in the past. What do you think it could be?

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Dear, I have gone through your question carefully and understand your concerns. The cause of pain in the ear may be due to an infection which inturn leads to tinnitus(ringing/ muffled sound). The tinnitus masks the outside sounds thus resulting in less hearing of outside sounds (communication). I suggest you to get an audiometry examination done and consult an E.N.T. expert asap. Take care.
