What Causes Pain And Pressure In The Ear?

Hi. I am a healthy 38 year old. My left ear is painful when pushed/pressure applied to the part of the ear that sticks out over the opening of the ear canal. Irritating when i talk on the phone or sleep on that side. What could be the cause? Nothing to look at so i have hesitated on seeing my provider.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my surgical experience, the pain and pressure in the ear indicates possible infection most likely involving middle ear as otitis media or else. My guidelines would be as follows (as you are hesitant to meet your provider):
- Keep cotton plugs covered in ear canal round the clock
- Apply antibiotic drops with ciprofloxacin or gentamicin 3-4 times a day
- Avoid exposure to cold wind, high pitch volume as loud speakers, drilling machines, swimming
- Anti- inflammatory medicine as ibuprofen with paracetamol 3 times a day after meals if no history of drug sensitivity

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
