What Causes Pain And Difficulty While Swallowing Liquids?

My name is Debe, I m 58 year old female who is morbidly obese, and have many chronic medical issues. Particularly, I have many of my back teeth and a few others missing, chronic sinusitis and post-nasal drip, tonsil stones which contribute to painful/difficult swallowing. As such, when I eat anything, it must be very, very small and soft. I choke very easily and if I m drinking any liquid, I usually have extreme difficulty keep said liquid in my mouth. Therefore, I must always utilize a bath towel for messes. Any idea what I am unable to control these issues? If so, please provide possible diagnosis , etc.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

We will try to help you in best way possible. First of all it's sad to know what you had been going through lately. Based on the history you have shared, most alarming and urgent is to be worked up for difficulty in swallowing and may need evaluation by an endoscopy along with baseline blood work up like blood counts for anemia and calcium levels keeping in view your history of teeth resorption.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
