What Causes Open Sores On Roof Of Mouth?

Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here...my husband has a small red open sore on roof of mouth and when looking I see 2-3- other samll red like marks. His is and always has been heavy smoker. Also and this is gross, his tongue is black :( tell me what is going on??

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns....

As per your complain red sores over the roof of the mouth can be an apthous ulcer that can be due to trauma with some hard food or burning and inflammation with heat or can be allergic reaction to some food or medicine..
Black appearance of tongue seems to be due to Black Hairy tongue and can occur due to discolouration caused as a result of smoking leading to accumulation of chemical particles over the papillae of tongue as well as bacterial overgrowth and staining..
I would suggest that he should limit and gradually completely stop smoking..
Cleaning tongue with a tongue scraper daily will help..
Gargle with 1:1 solution of hydrogen peroxide in water..
Limit intake of tea and coffee..
Eat more of raw foods and fruits as they helps in cleaning tongue with friction..
Drink plenty of water and maintain a good oral hygiene..
