What Causes Numbness In Toe After An Infection?

I had a botched pedicure on November 11, 2011 and had a bad infection in my big toe after the fact. I now have no feeling around the skin area of my big toe. Under the nail is a purplish colour. What should I do? I have been tested for diabetis and thyroid problems and both have come back negative. The numbness all started after the infection.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms seem to be related to neuropathy after the infection.

I suggest using anti-inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen to relieve the symptoms.

If the symptoms continue, you can try medications such as Gabapentin which can be given only through prescription by the neurologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr.Dorina Gurabardhi, General &Family Physician
