What Causes Numbness In Fingers And Hands With Tingling Sensation In Left Hand?
I have been experiencing numbness in my fingers and hands off and on but lately it is getting worse. I have had a tingling and numbness in my left hand for 3-4 days now without it stopping. In addition, when I stand for a long period of time, my left leg will sometimes go numb but no tingling.
Tingling & numbness in limbs are mostly caused by peripheral nerve damage. There are many causes of peripheral nerve damage such as neuritis, diabetes, chronic renal failure, leprosy, vertebral compression, vasculitis, shingles and hypothyroidism etc. Cause needs to be identified. Numbness is due to compression of neurons caused by micro edema around nerve. Advice 1. Give rest to your arm 2. Methylcobalamin 500 mcg once daily per oral for 3 months 3. Dexamethasone 0.5 mg every 12 hours for 5 days 4. Investigations – blood sugar (F & PP) If it does not resolve with above measures then consult a doctor for further investigation and management. Thanks
