What Causes Nausea, Lightheadedness, Sweating And Abdominal Discomfort In A Diabetic Patient?

Hi, At 3:00 am this morning I woke up feeling slightly nauseous. I went to the bathroom and felt worse, like I was coming down with the flu, I stood up and felt lightheaded. I was also sweating. General discomfort got worse and then got better. I woke up later this morning and felt fine. The episode lasted about 5 to 10 minutes. I m 64, male, 6 ft tall and weight 260 pounds. I ve been a diabetic (type 2) for 15 years, non insulin. I ve never had my diabetes out of control since I was diagnosed.

Addiction Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hi,

Without an exam, I can only give general information. And in a diabetic, the nerves are often/usually a bit damaged by the diabetes and the sensations are a bit messed up. Silent or atypical symptoms with a heart attack are quite common AND THIS COULD DESCRIBE THAT. Can be the flu. Can be changes in digestion associated with diabetes in which case the symptoms definitely will return many many times.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Matt Wachsman, Addiction Medicine Specialist
