What Causes Nausea And Vertigo When Bisoprolol Is Taken?

My mom has been taking apo-bisoprolol fumarate for about 1 week now and up till now there has been only mild feelings of nausea. This morning she awoke, however, feeling as though the room was spinning. She was able to manage the nausea initially but finds that when she moves her head slightly in any one direction she begins to feel dizzy which has led her to feel extremely nauseous and as a result somewhat weak. Is this normal with such medication? I read that the medication also interacts with caffeine, in what way?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Apo-Bisoprolol contains the active ingredient bisoprolol fumarate. Bisoprolol is used to treat heart failure and high blood pressure in a patient. Usually, it is used along with other drugs as a combination. Heart failure occurs when the heart muscle is weak and unable to pump enough blood to supply the body's requirement.

Its side effects are tiredness, dizziness, drowsiness, slow heartbeat, nausea, lightheadedness upon standing, spinning sensation, dry mouth, insomnia, diarrhoea, joint pain, runny or stuffy nose, cough, weakness, fatigue, vomiting, cold extremities, hypotension, muscle pain, loss of libido, shortness of breath, allergic reactions etc. If these side effects persist or bother you, then consult your doctor immediately for medical help.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
