What Causes Nausea And Excessive Salivation?

I have GERD and am on 20mg of omeprazole daily. I had a 3 week bout of difficulty swallowing and I could not eat. I had a scope with dilation, esophageal biopsy negative for allergic condition or anything abnormal, a normal swallow study, x rays and CT scan all normal. Blood work was normal also. I changed my diet also afraid this would happen again. It’s been approximately 3 months and I feel throat tightening coming back making it difficult for me to swallow again, now I also have nausea and excessive saliva production. Why is this happening? Is it just the GERD or could it be something else? I’m a 34 yr old female who is otherwise healthy and a healthy weight. Please help!

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

GERD itself can cause excessive salivation. Other causes for excessive salivation tonsilitis, pharyngitis, poisonous spider bites, reptile venom , ulcers inflammation and pain in the mouth, poor oral hygiene, regurgitation of saliva etc. Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. Use antacid medications, use tablet Pantoprazole before breakfast for few weeks. Avoid spicy food and alcohol avoid smoking and caffeine drinks. If symptoms not improved please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Why you undergone scope with biopsy? What problems you have?
