Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My blood center has found an anomaly: I have too low platelet count to do adheres is. I am wondering what this may indicate, but the symptom checker doesn’t seem to be geared for that synptomology. Is this of sufficient concern that I should see my regular physician
** Thanks for contacting with your health concern.
1. As you have not mentioned about the platelet count thus one cannot comment exactly whether it is mildly decreased or critically decreased thus it is wise to consult a Hematologist or Medicine specialist for further necessary information.
2. because low platelet count can vary from viral infection to leukemia, vitamin B12 deficiency, or Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic purpura [ITP], so you should go for complete blood count [CBC], peripheral blood examination and bone marrow biopsy [if needed], since one has to find the cause of low platelets and then treat accordingly.
PS. sometimes low platelet count may be due to normal variation, and if you don't have any episodes of bleeding/bruising go for repeated test regularly but if you notice any bruising consult your regular physician.
