What Causes Itchy Rashes All Over The Body On Intake Of Penicillin Antibiotic?

My son whole body flared up with a rash after taking an antibiotic prescribe by a doctor, went to another doctor who advised that the antibiotic was to strong and provided us with another penecillen antibiotic.The red rash then subsided on most of my son's body, however later the evening his entire body was covered again.Please advise what we can do as he is very itchy even after putting calamine lotion on him

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that your son has a severe allergic reaction to Penicillin and as he has the same symptoms after taking another antibiotic then there is a possibility that he is allergic to the Penicillin group of antibiotics and you should stop the antibiotic and take him to the doctor so that he can advise him other antibiotics which does not belong to Penicillin group of antibiotics..
He can also advise him anti allergics like Benadryl for relief from allergy symptoms as well as application of steroid ointment to apply over rashes to relieve itching and soreness..

I have gone through your query and understand your concerns.

Pencillin is a common antibiotic to cause allergic reaction. so i would come up with the possibility of ALLERGY for the skin rash of your son
-The body’s defense mechanism, the immune system, reacts to the allergen as if it were a dangerous organism, in trying to neutralize the antigen, the body releases histamine, which produces the allergy symptoms. The antibiotics may be the predisposing and triggering factor for the development of allergy.
So first of all the antibiotic should be stopped. Apply a steroid topical cream such as Betamethasone cream. Also take a antihistamine drug such as cetrizine/benedryl by mouth.

Don't worry he would be fine
