What Causes Irregular Menstruation Despite Being Treated For PCOS?

Hello my husband have been trying for the past year to get pregnant but it has been very difficult. I was diagnosed with PCOS. I was on birth control to regulate my period in February 2016. I have been off since April and my period came every month but is very irregular. What would recommend please.

Hello,

There are many things to know. Firstly, have you done any tests after leaving the pills to know the current status of your PCOS? Because there are some parameters to check before you can get pregnant. So, I would like to share some tests so that you can understand your fertility profile and share the results with us so that a doctor can analyse the results and guide you to become pregnant. In this context, if any treatment is required prior to getting pregnant, it will be also given to you.

The tests that should be done are:
1. Lower Abdomen USG with Endometrial thickness, Antral Follicle Count (AFC)
2. FSH,LH,ESTROGEN, PROGESTERONE level in blood
3. Thyroid Function Tests (T3,T4,TSH)
4. GNRH level

Please post the test results so that a doctor can takes decision what to do next for your successful pregnancy. Stress is undesirable in this case. So, be relax. There are ample of treatment and even you can go for IUI or IVF if drug treatments cannot do the needful.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dipan Samanta, General & Family Physician
