Hi Doctor my mom had a stroke a few weeks ago and are unable to speak or eat? She are able to move her legs but that is all. The doctor are talking about a peg tube they would want to insert. What can I do to help her recover. How can I take care of her hygiene better? Can you give me advice on how to move forward with my moms health? Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The stroke attack affect the brain region. The speaking ability, eating ability and movement all mediated by brain cortex by different region.

So with improvement in stroke, she might be able to do all activity gradually.

If she is not able to eat than to maintain nutrition, feeding tube need to be insert.

You can Consult her to neurologist for detailed evaluation and discuss about full recovery time.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
